Salisbury sign up Neilson
Alan Neilson

Nationwide South side Salisbury City have completed the signing of former Welsh international Alan Neilson from Tamworth on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old was out of contract at the Nationwide Conference strugglers and has decided to take up the challenge of trying to help Salisbury win promotion.

The former Newcastle United, Southampton and Fulham man can operate in midfield or defence and has been used as a utilty player throughout his career, earning seven caps for his country.

Neilson has also played for Grimsby and Luton and could go straight into City's squad for Saturday's FA Trophy quarter-final clash at Stevenage Borough.

Ironically, one of the games he played for Tamworth earlier this season was in their 2-1 win against the Hertfordshire side.

Nationwide Conference Poll
Do you think the play-offs are fair or that promotion should be decided by final league position?
