Cambridge extend Page deal

Cambridge United have received a welcome boost with news that MK Dons defender Sam Page has had his loan spell extended.

The 19-year-old signed on an initial month's loan and Dons boss Martin Allen has allowed him to stay on at the Nationwide Conference side, with the duration of the extension still to be decided.

Manager Jimmy Quinn has also extended the loan of Port Vale midfielder Christian Smith this week and is delighted to have both of these youngsters staying at Abbey Stadium.

"Sam is delighted to stay and he will have a good future in the game," Quinn said.

"He's not the quickest player in the world but you won't find a much better attitude and determination than him.

"He's over-enthusiastic sometimes and he does give away free kicks, which he just needs to tidy up a little bit, but he's a good talker and a wholehearted player and that's the type that we need."

And of midfielder Smith, Quinn added, "Christian didn't have a brilliant game on Tuesday, along with the rest of them, but he has made an impact and he gives us something that we've missed in the middle of the park.

"He puts his foot in and he did tremendously well against Stafford and not just with the goal he scored; he was winning his headers and his tackles and it's good to have him."
