Terras in takeover talks
|
Martyn Harrison, chairman of Nationwide Conference side Weymouth, has revealed that he is currently in talks with potential investors.
He announced in January that the club was facing an impending financial crisis and has since been actively trying to assure the long-term future of the club.
"When I made my announcement in January, I promised to look after the long-term security of Weymouth Football Club and this continues to be my primary goal," Harrison told the Dorset Echo.
"I am pleased to announce that there has been a significant level of interest from the wider football community, and several approaches from individuals and organisations that have expressed an interest in taking over the running of the club.
"At this stage the board is ruling none of these options out. In fact I want to make it known that we positively welcome any expressions of serious interest from whichever quarter, provided the interests of the club come first.
"I have put my heart and soul into this club over the last few years and it's no secret that this has taken its toll. However, I haven't put all of this hard work and money into the club just to leave it without direction.
"I will continue to strive to secure the best possible deal and find the right team of people to take the club from strength to strength. In fact we continue to perform well having just secured another three points at Gravesend.
"Back in January I promised we would play all our fixtures and work hard at keeping our place in the Conference. Our present position vindicates the stance I have taken.
"Furthermore, I believe there is now a real opportunity for the club to build on its success achieved over the last few years. We have some great talent, unwavering supporters and sponsors, and committed staff which can only bring exciting prospects."
