Reds part ways with Ebdon
Marcus Ebdon

Nationwide North side Alfreton Town have revealed that manager Marcus Ebdon will be relieved of his duties after Saturday's clash at Kettering Town.

Ebdon was appointed after manager Gary Mills left to take up the vacant post at Nationwide Conference side Tamworth.

He got off to a great start, collecting ten points from a possible 15 but they have gone on to collect just one win and three draws from the next 11 games.

"Supporters do demand success and in this instance Marcus and his assistant David Reeves would have had a mountain to climb to convince them that they could piece together a new side for next season and manage it to a successful era," Alfreton chairman Wayne Bradley said.

"The club has decided it wants to bring in a more proven manager to take us into the next era, but we won't be making any announcement on an appointment for a few weeks as there are some finer details to be ironed out between the two parties.

"The commencement of Marcus Ebdon's managerial spell was instant in its success which in some ways means it has been a difficult decision to make.

"It wasn't easy at all and I do sympathise with his plight since his take over and understand how difficult it has been to attract players when they were not wanting to commit themselves to a club which could be changing managerial posts.

"If Marcus had carried on at the rate of wins from his early point we would probably have been sat in the play offs and he would have been our manager into the next year.

"He has been very unlucky with injuries to key members of staff at a time when he needed that experience out on the park, especially with a very small squad, which badly hampered his hopes of getting another run going.

"Unfortunately, for numerous reasons it hasn't happened and we have to move on.

"Marcus will be leaving the club with our very best wishes and with a positive reference of his managerial credentials."
