Lewes chairman steps down
|
Terry Parris |
Nationwide South club Lewes have announced with sadness the resignation of club legend Terry Parris as chairman with immediate effect.
Parris' decision to step down was taken after long consideration and comes down to family and business commitments.
Parris enjoyed seven years at the helm and was previously a player at the club.
"I have had an extremely enjoyable time at Lewes and have made numerous friends through my work with the club," Parris is quoted as saying.
"It has, however, taken up increasing amounts of my time. Like all those on the board of the club I have given my services on a voluntary basis, but have also had my own business to run.
"My family too has not seen a great deal of me over recent years and I feel it is now time for me to devote myself to both them and my livelihood.
"I am very sad to be leaving but it is on amicable terms with the board and I shall always be a huge supporter of the club. I wish Lewes FC continued success for the future."
Lewes managing director Martin Elliott added: "We will miss Terry and the immense contribution that he has made to the club.
"He has been an outstanding ambassador for Lewes FC but the board fully understands his desire to now concentrate on important areas of his life.
"On behalf of the board and everyone connected with the football club I'd like to thank him for all his hard work and wish him all the very best for his future.
"We have no plans at the moment to search for a replacement for Terry, but the topic will obviously be discussed at some length over the coming weeks.
"This is a pivotal year for Lewes FC with ground improvements coming to fruition and the club's involvement with Active Lewes coming on to the horizon.
"We are constantly looking for volunteers who can contribute in any way to the running of the club and would ask anyone interested to contact us. There is much to look forward to in the next few years."
