Eastleigh swoop for Harris
Andy Harris

Nationwide South side Eastleigh have completed the signing of midfielder Andy Harris from Nationwide Conference side Weymouth.

Harris played a pivotal role in Weymouth's midfield last season as they earned the Nationwide South title but following a cartilage operation in July he has failed to break into the team.

He has spent the last month on loan at the Silverlake Stadium prompting Spitfires boss Paul Doswell to make an official approach for his services.

"Andy has done really well for us but his contract was up at the end of this season," Weymouth boss Garry Hill told the Dorset Echo.

"He has been offered an opportunity of two years on top of that at Eastleigh, which I am sure is an important factor for him and his family in regards to security.

"Andy has not played for us to date this season and when I received the call from Eastleigh I did not think it would be fair to deprive him of the opportunity to talk to them."

Terras' fans will undoubtedly remember Harris for the equaliser he netted at Coca-Cola League One side Nottingham Forest in the First Round of last season's FA Cup.

Harris said: "I have had to weigh up the opportunity they have offered against my private life, my children and my professional pride. And I think I am at the stage in my career now where I am looking at what there is after football.

"I think signing for Eastleigh will give me that opportunity to balance studies and my wife building up her business, with of course playing football.

"I was prepared to come back to Weymouth and fight for my place but these things happen in football. It is bittersweet because I have enjoyed my time at Weymouth and I would like to say thank you to everyone at the club.

"With the success we had last season it is difficult to leave but the Eastleigh deal offers me more security."
