Hatters in Chalmers hunt

League Two side Stockport have emerged as hot favourites to land the signature of Nationwide Conference side Altrincham's starlet Lewis Chalmers.

The 21-year-old has been in impressive form this season, scoring five goals in 36 league games.

League One duo of Northampton Town and Brentford have also expressed their interest in the youngster but Stockport look to have won the race to his signature.

The League Two promotion hopefuls have confirmed that Chalmers is a possible summer signing.

Stockport manager Jim Gannon told "He is one of a number of players we are looking at and we will be making further attempts to recruit young players in the summer, if we feel they are right for the club, both now and in the future."

Chalmers is not tied down to a contract at Altrincham and could leave the club after handing in his seven days' notice.
