Trinity swoop for Jackson
|
Nationwide North club Gainsborough Trinity have received a donation from an anonymous fan which has enabled them to sign striker Kirk Jackson.
Manager Paul Mitchell made his move for the England semi-professional international striker signing him on a month's loan from league rivals Harrogate Town.
Jamie Smith has joined Harrogate as part of the deal and star defender Ben Purkiss looks to be close to an exit as well.
Nationwide Conference play-off hopefuls York City made a formal bid for the services of Purkiss this week, which the Trinity board accepted.
It is a major coup for Trinity to get Kirk Jackson," Mitchell told Gainsborough Today.
"There was quite a few other clubs in for him but he decided that he wanted to come here, which is great.
"A supporter, who wants to keep his identity hidden has done us a favour and helped us bring him in.
"Kirk will give us a lot of experience up front, which is something we have perhaps been lacking. I think we have four quality strikers now in him, Ryan Mallon, Simon Bird and Ross Hannah.
Mitchell went on to explain the sale of Ben Purkiss saying: "Ben is a terrific lad who has done so well for us. I think it had been well documented that York had been tracking him for some time and they put in a bid for him this week.
"The offer was a good one for the club and the player.
"I think the board would have dismissed it out of hand but they wanted to be fair to the player - it is a fantastic opportunity for him - especially if York win promotion."
