Grays release Hooper

Nationwide Conference side Grays Athletic have shocked their supporters with news that teenage sensation Gary Hooper has been released.

The 18-year-old came to prominence last season, scoring eight goals in 16 starts from the midfield but this was not enough to convince new manager Frank Gray to retain his services.

The youngster has been described as 'one for the future' and he is currently on trial at Barnet and played the 2nd half in their 1-0 away win at Hitchin on Wednesday night.

Grays turned down a transfer bid from Championship side Reading last season but in a complete turnaround he has been released on a free transfer.
