Morris quits Dorchester
|
Nationwide South side Dorchester Town have been struck a blow with news that manager Mark Morris has resigned.
The club's directors informed Morris that there was no money to give contracts to three of last season's players and as a result the manager decide to call it quits.
He was planning to re-sign defender Simon Radcliffe, goalkeeper Nick Jones and midfielder Larbi Mekchiche for the new season but this was vetoed by the directors.
"I have not done it through any ill feeling towards anyone," Morris told Echosport.
"I have just made the decision because I have stopped enjoying the job.
"I was down there for the football - but it had turned into a situation where football took a back seat. All anyone ever talks about is the money side of things and it was getting me down.
"It became the over-riding factor and every day players were queuing up wanting to be sorted out for the coming season and I didn't really have any answers for them.
"When three players walked out of our training session on Tuesday after being told they couldn't have the contracts I had offered them, I decided it was time to let someone else have a go and see what they can come up with.
"I told the directors on Tuesday night that I had decided to pack it in, but they asked me to sleep on it.
"They phoned me last night and said there was no more money and they would be sticking tight to their budget. I said I would be sticking with my original decision.
"I decided to make a stand and my only regret is that I didn't make this decision a few weeks earlier because I didn't intend to leave the club in the lurch.
"I felt I had to make a stand for my own personal career. I am competitive and wanted to push on, but I just didn't feel I was getting the help I needed."
