Town hope to keep Charles

Ian McDonald, manager of Nationwide South club Farnborough Town, has urged youngster Michael Charles to prove himself with the club before moving on to a higher-profile club.

The 19-year-old forward is currently out-of-contract and has been looking to earn a move to a bigger club despite having limited first team experience thus far.

"I believe his near future lies here," said McDonald. "He's been at the club a long time and I still think he has something to prove at first-team level.

"I'll be looking to see Michael's commitment this year, to see if he is as hungry as he was last. If he can knuckle down, hold down a regular spot in the team and bang in the goals, then people will come calling for him.

"If he can do that for me, I've got the contacts, I'll get people down to look at him myself.

"Michael was offered a new contract at the end of last season, but he chose to keep his options open over the summer.

"I've had a very good chat with him, he is very much in my plans for the new season and I'm confident he'll come back. I'm really looking forward to working with him."
