Nationwide North club Stalybridge Celtic have secured the signature of former Oldham and Middlesbrough midfielder Ashley Winn.

Winn completes a permanent switch to Bower Fold from Conference National outfit York City following a successful loan spell last season.

Manager John Reed was pleased with his latest coup and said: "Ashley has bags of potential, and could well be a major player in the Nationwide North.

"It's a measure of his commitment to our club that he turned down offers from much nearer home to come to us.

"There have been negative vibes emanating from the rest of Tameside towards Celtic but I'm quietly confident that the squad I'm building will be more than capable of challenging for promotion.

"I'm disappointed that Neil Prince broke his word that the only Nationwide North club he would entertain playing for was Celtic, but maybe it could be a blessing in disguise he's gone because it's allowed me to bring Ash in.

"He did a superb job for us at the back end of the season and I'm looking forward to him doing it for 42 games."

In other news, Barrie Keeling and James Turley have signed new deals with Celtic.
