Nationwide Conference side Southport have appointed senior player Dino Maamria and physio Steve Whitehall as their caretaker-manager team.

This follows the dismissal of Paul Cook earlier this week as Southport slipped to the bottom of the Conference table with a dismal 20 points from 25 matches.

Meanwhile, Southport have received a welcome boost with news that on-loan Blackpool duo Ciaran Donnelly and Sean Paterson will be staying at Haig Avenue.

The pair have agreed to stay on but Sean Doherty has decided to go back to Accrington Stanley as he looks to settle his contract at the Fraser Eagle.
