Cambridge capture Crichton

Rob Newman, manager of Nationwide Conference club Cambridge United, has completed the signing of veteran goalkeeper Paul Crichton from Gillingham.

The 37-year-old stopper is well-travelled having played for 17 clubs during his 20 year career but has been at Gillingham more recently on a player-coaching deal.

However, he only made one appearance last season and negotiated a settlement on his two year contract recently as he still feels he can play competitive football.

"We were close to signing him last season but we couldn't agree a deal and he went to Gillingham as their number 2 keeper and coach, but he's come around again and he's still very fit and I think he'll be a tremendous asset to the club," Rob Newman told the club's official website.

"He will be another experienced player in the dressing room and I think that's beneficial to the squad as a whole."
