Smith: No Burgess offers
|
Andy Burgess |
Oxford United manager Jim Smith has denied reports that Leeds United's new boss Dennis Wise is chasing the signature of midfielder Andy Burgess.
The 25-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most talented players in the Nationwide Conference and has played a pivotal role in Oxford's superb run of form this season.
"I can't see Andy Burgess being Dennis Wise's kind of player in a relegation battle," Smith told the Oxford Mail.
A national newspaper has suggested that Wise is poised to launch a bid of £250,000 for the services of Oxford's talismanic midfielder.
"I hope they do offer £250,000! But I haven't heard anything from them," Smith added.
"We do rely a little bit on Burgess in terms of opening teams up in our attacking play, but we don't have any really outstanding player in the team - we play together as a team.
"You always need to sell, at whatever club you're at, unless you're Chelsea or Man Utd," he said.
"If a proper offer comes in for any player at this level, you'd consider it."
